1A Coffee Roasters was created in 2018 by a couple who thought they could create something different using coffee as a force for good. Their mission is to elevate the coffee experience while focusing on the local community, the producing countries’ smallholder farms and low-income workers. By focusing on sustainable development in three main areas throughout the coffee supply chain; social, economic, and environmental.
We work together in a powerful and bold identity, that will connect with the energy and positivity both founders radiate. Different textures were used to create a connection with nature generating patterns and drawing with free and spontaneous brushes. The bright and vivid colours reinforce the wide variety of different origins of the coffee.
We also created a “mascot” for the brand, that will be used on the logo and by itself as an image type. We look for an animal that can represent 1a Coffee Roasters’ values and spirit but also have a strong connection with the coffee and with the brand itself. A woodpecker was perfect as it lives in both Finland and America: the origins of the brand and on coffee plantation areas.
Besides the identity, we worked on the packaging for the different coffees. We designed a custom label for every variety to create its visual universe, connecting with the flavours and aromas; and with the origin of the coffee bean. A colourful and dynamic identity and communication system, aligned with one of 1a Coffee Roasters’ motto: to take life as a journey and every label can serve as a postcard directly from the roots and origin of the coffee.
